Apollo Bay

About Apollo Bay

Apollo Bay was named in 1845 after Captain Loutit's ship, The Apollo and is located on the Great Ocean Road in close proximity to the spectacular Otway Rain Forest and Twelve Apostles National Park. It is no surprise that tourism is the fastest growing industry in the region, with its beautiful coastal scenery and beaches, and temperatures ranging from 13C-21C in Summer and 8C-13C in Winter.
Hosting a population of 1,300, Apollo Bay's other key industry is fishing, predominantly for crayfish and abalone. While in the surrounding areas, dairy, beef and sheep farming abound.

IGA X-press and FoodWorks are the local supermarkets and in addition to the numerous shops in Apollo Bay, the major shopping centres of Geelong and Lorne aren’t far away.
Please note that the supermarket opening hours are typically more restricted than those in the city, and in most towns the typical opening hours are from 7am-10pm daily.
There is also a local market on the foreshore every Saturday from 9am-1pm.

Apollo bay has a select variety of quality cafés, restaurants and takeaways to choose from, and you can’t go past the fresh seafood available daily from the Fisherman’s Co-Op at the Apollo Bay Pier.

There are endless things to do in Apollo Bay - visits to the Museum, the Marine Park, the harbour or strolling though the spectacular rainforests. There are also a number of adventure activities available for those interested and scenic tours both on and off the water.

Sport and Recreation
